Why do you think you can be a good assistant principal?
To convince them that YOU are the right candidate for the job is not an easy task. If you failed to do so, however, they would choose someone else for the job. Every interview answer matters, not only this one. Anyway, you should try to explain the value you can bring to their institution, to their team of teachers and education administrators. Try to focus on the following areas:
- Your abilities and experience that are required, or desired for the job.
- Your motivation to work as an assistant principal, your enthusiasm for the role.
- Something that makes you unique as a job applicant.
Sample answers
I have worked as a teacher at the elementary school for ten years. I have always had a personal relationship with the students, motivating them, and helping them. I also consulted parents and achieved good results in terms of improving their overall rankings and satisfaction. However, I believe that I should do more. I am looking for a leadership role, trying to help the children to find their calling in life, and to enjoy their time at school. My mindset and experience makes me a good candidate for this position, at least I believe so.
First of all, I meet all requirements in terms of education and experience. Secondly, I always wanted to have this job. Bigger responsibility, working with the children, that’s something I always wanted to do. I believe I can help making this institution a better place for everyone, and I already have on my mind some ideas on how to improve things here.
Special tip: Your interview presence should correspond with your words. For example, when you speak about enthusiasm and motivation, it is important that they feel enthusiasm in your voice. Your verbal and non-verbal communication should tell the same story.
